Sustainability

The wedding industry has a significant environmental footprint. As photographers who spend our working lives in some of the most beautiful settings in the country, we feel a responsibility to protect them. Sustainability is not a marketing exercise for us — it is a genuine and ongoing commitment to running our business in a way that does less harm and, where we can, some good.

What We're Doing

We have been taking steps to reduce our environmental impact for several years. Some of these started before sustainability became a mainstream conversation in the wedding industry. Here is where we stand today.

6,100+ trees planted through Ecologi

Since May 2020, we have planted 20 trees for every wedding we photograph through our partnership with Ecologi. To date, that's over 6,100 trees and more than 78 tonnes of CO2e offset through verified reforestation and carbon avoidance projects in Kenya, Uganda, Madagascar, Brazil, and Colombia. You can see our live impact at ecologi.com/skyphotography.

Fully digital delivery

Every wedding gallery is delivered online. We don't post USBs, prints, or packaging as standard — which means no plastic, no shipping emissions, and no waste for the vast majority of our bookings.

Online consultations only

All our couple meetings take place on Google Meet. This removes around 100 car journeys per year — ours and yours — compared to traditional in-person consultations.

Green energy and green hosting

Our home studio runs on a renewable electricity tariff. Our website is hosted by Krystal, a certified B Corp and one of the UK's leading green hosting providers, powered by renewable energy.

Secondhand equipment

We buy and sell used camera gear wherever we can. Keeping professional equipment in use for longer reduces manufacturing demand and keeps functional products out of landfill.

Carbon Literacy certified

In March 2024, we completed Carbon Literacy Training for Wedding Professionals, delivered by the Sustainable Wedding Alliance and certified by the Carbon Literacy Project. This gave us a grounded understanding of climate science and how it applies to our industry.

Local focus

We primarily cover weddings within 30 miles of Northampton. Shorter distances mean less fuel and lower emissions per wedding.

Where We're Heading

We believe in honest, achievable targets rather than grand promises. Our commitments for the next five years include:

  • Transitioning to an electric vehicle by 2031, which would eliminate our single largest source of emissions
  • Completing a formal carbon footprint audit by the end of 2027 to establish a precise baseline
  • Investigating solar panels for our home studio
  • Choosing green providers across our digital supply chain
  • Exploring membership of the Sustainable Wedding Alliance for further accreditation and tools

We will update this page each year to reflect what we've achieved and where we're going next.

Our Documents

We have published a full Sustainability Policy and Carbon Reduction Plan. Both are available to download below.

These documents set out our environmental footprint in detail, the actions we've already taken, and our specific targets through to 2031.

If you have questions about our approach to sustainability, or if you'd like to talk about what we're doing, we'd love to hear from you. Get in touch.

Our Impact With Ecologi

With every couple that books us, we plant 20 trees through our partner Ecologi. Here is our live impact, updated in real time.
