The Benefits of Hiring Two Wedding Photographers at your wedding
Hiring a Second Photographer
Ok, this may seem obvious, but just in case…
Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and capturing as much of that day is essential. It’ll probably be the only day in your life that you’ll have all the people you care about around you, and the photographer’s job is to capture those memories for you. While hiring a single wedding photographer is common, the benefits of having two wedding photographers can significantly enhance your wedding story. With two photographers at your wedding, you get double the coverage and a more diverse range of candid moments and angles that a single photographer can miss. Take a look below at the many advantages of having two photographers on your special day!
Simon and Karla – Husband & Wife Wedding Photographer Team
Yes, that’s right. Karla and I are a husband-and-wife team of two photographers. We’ve been capturing beautiful wedding stories since 2008, and we recognised the potential of having both of us cover a wedding so early in our careers.
With two stories going on in the morning and so much happening on the wedding day, we wanted to capture more of what went on in the story. So, it made sense to work together while offering one photographer option, too. Choosing a photographer (or two) is a tough decision, so we thought we’d write this little piece to explain the advantages of having two photographers and help you decide. We still offer one photographer option, too, but it’s definitely worth considering two.
Capturing The Groom’s Story With A Second Photographer
10 Reasons To Consider Hiring Two Wedding Photographers
1.
Both Stories Of The Build-up
- From Two Wedding Photographers
The Groom’s Story – Laughs, Banter, Nerves… And Sometimes Happy Tears!
The Grooms story is often overlooked. Whilst not every groom may want 'getting ready shots', it's more about capturing the banter between groomsmen, the laughs, guests arriving and the emotional buildup to the ceremony. We can pick up his story at the wedding venue, hotel, home or down the pub! Catching their final checks at the venue, nerves building, and wedding guests greeting each other. Easy peasy, all make emotional storytelling! It's never awkward and always natural.
The Bride Story – Beauty, Fun, Emotions and the Details.
The Details: Close-ups of the bridal gown, jewellery, the bouquet, and that pair of stunning heels that may or may not survive the dance floor. Don’t forget the perfume bottle, rings, and perhaps a sentimental keepsake like a grandmother’s handkerchief.
Hair and Makeup: Shots of the bride getting made up, from the careful swipe of lipstick to the final spritz of hairspray. Cue the candid smiles, concentrated looks, and maybe a touch of mascara-induced panic.
The Robe shot: Photos of the bride in a chic robe with “Bride” embroidered on the back, sipping bubbly or sharing a laugh with her bridesmaids. Bonus points if there’s a matching set for everyone!
The Dress Reveal: That magical moment when the bride steps into her gown, with helping hands zipping, buttoning, or lacing it up. Cue teary-eyed mums, doting friends, and a mirror shot that screams “bridal magazine cover.”
Finishing Touches: Adding the veil, adjusting jewellery, or slipping into those shoes—every last touch gets its time to shine.
Emotional Moments: A quiet exchange of letters or gifts with the groom, a hug with Mum, or a bridesmaid dabbing away happy tears are the heart-string pullers everyone loves.
The Group Huddle: Shots of the bride surrounded by her squad, often a mix of giggling, toasting, and a few obligatory selfies.
It’s a whirlwind of elegance, emotion, and the occasional chaos, all beautifully captured to relive forever!
Time Synced Photos
This is one of the best advantages of hiring two photographers because it means we can be dedicated to each of you and often in separate locations. Not only that, but because we time-synchronize your images, when you look back through your photos, you see the two stories overlaid with both your stories climaxing with both reactions down the aisle…

2.
Bride and Groom Reactions!
So, this is the climax of your story. Your beautiful song is playing, and your bridesmaids have already walked down the aisle. Now it’s your turn. Your groom nervously fidgets, looking up at the ceiling as he struggles with his emotions. He looks round to see you in all your glory, and bang, that is the most prized photograph of the day—his reaction as you walk down the aisle. You can only capture both reactions with a second shooter primed and ready.

3.
Benefits Of Two Photographers: More Candid Moments From Your Wedding Day
Having two sets of eyes and cameras, we are able to capture more of those important moments. There is so much going on during your big day, particularly during the drinks reception, speeches, evening and the dance floor. Having two of us there to capture it makes a lot of sense.
Working as a single main photographer, I’ve often had to choose between moments. As a single photographer, I can’t be in two places at the same time. What’s worse is when I’m away completely taking photos of the room details, and I can hear raucous laughter, I know I’m missing something… Argh!
4.
More Moments You Didn't Know Happened
We are your eyes and ears on the day, capturing everything that goes on while you focus on enjoying your day. Throughout most of your day, your attention will be engaged with the people in front of you. While we're capturing a lot of this, we'll be everywhere, capturing so much you didn't know happened.
5.
Second Photographer And Varying Wedding Photography Style
I love this because although we are two photographers, we are different people. Karla is more emotional, and I am more technical (not a robot, I promise). Having that second perspective often makes a difference. We notice Karla is approached a lot more for couple and family photos during the day, so guests, both old and young, act differently around us, meaning we can capture different candid shots.

Wedding Day Logistics -
One Can Capture The Guests, Whilst The Other Captures Group Photos
Naturally, we split responsibilities many times throughout your day. Ideally, one of us is constantly in touch with the guests, capturing anything that happens with them, whilst the other is away on another responsibility. We still need to capture group photos, your painstakingly thought-out details of your room decor, and sometimes we need time to set up lighting, etc. This is one of the minor benefits of having a second photographer; that one of us is always available and on hand, ready to capture.
7.
Backup In Case Of Emergencies
Not that it has ever come to this, but if one of us was ill, you still have an additional wedding photographer to capture your day. We are members of an ‘Emergency Cover Group’ and have several wedding photographer friends, so we would always try to cover the ill photographer.
8.
Capture Different Angles And Perspectives With Two Sets Of Eyes
Speeches
While the speeches are going on, we can capture all the joy, laughter, and tears from your head table and your guests' tables. I love capturing the reactions to speeches. With both of us on the job, you capture more of your guests' reactions.
Dancefloor
A packed dance floor straight after your first dance is tantalising. So, so much to capture at breakneck speed. With two of us capturing away we get the parents sharing a moment and the bridesmaids tears all at the same time. When things have quietened a little one of us can capture people at the tables and bar, whilst the other stays on the dance floor.
Couple Portraits
Couple portraits aren’t awkward; in fact, they’re probably the most peaceful, ‘present’ part of your day. We’ll both be there, Karla helping with the dress, and both of us capturing some epic shots from different angles.
9.
Investing In Two Photographers
While having a second photographer is a little more expensive (phone call to parents!), there is a lot of value in this decision. It’s not a lot more than hiring a single photographer. Karla and I have worked on hundreds of weddings together, and most couples, probably about 80%, book us as a pair. You can take a look at our one—and two-photographer packages here.

More Photos = More Story
It goes without saying that having an additional photographer at your wedding will equate to more moments, more images, and, ultimately, more of your wedding story being captured. Typically, at least 700+ pictures are delivered.
