What if we over run?

We’re gone! Only kidding 🙂 Weddings quite often overrun so don’t worry, we understand. We will ask you about this on your wedding day form. Her you can leave us instructions in the scenario of overrunning. This way we don’t need to disturb you on the day when you’re in full flow.

Keywords: Overrun, Late, Time, Extra hours

Can we pay money off our balance?

You can log in to your client access area here and make payments any time.

Keywords: Payment, balance, pay off, send money

When will our wedding photos be ready?

In short: Normally 6 weeks – Busy periods add a few weeks During and after a pandemic… probably longer. We’ll keep you updated though 🙂
We’re typically pretty punctual on this, and we do everything (including caffeine-fueled late-nighters) we can to keep to this. We want you to have your photos while your day is still fresh.
April till October weddings are our busy months and this keeps us hectic editing until December.

Keywords: Wedding Photos, When, Ready

Do we need to bring anything on our wedding day? Umbrella? Boots? Sparklers?

Boots

We love taking beautiful outdoor nature-filled images. Vibrant colours and breathtaking skies. Except we’ll struggle if you can’t get those stilettos about the place! Lol. Many of the venues we visit require all of us to walk over grass/field. So we recommend some welly boots. Don’t worry they don’t have to be in the photos, but sometimes in a few 😉

Umbrella/Parasol

If the weather is looking like it could rain bring an umbrella. We can take some awesome pictures if you have one. Better have one and not need one, than wishing you had. Parasols are great too if you’re thinking of rocking that particular style.

Sparklers

If we are still about when it’s dark and you’ve checked with the venue, then yes bring as many sparklers as you like and on your wedding day form that we will send you let us know that a) you have sparklers b) a rough idea what sort of photo you want. i.e. sparkler send-off, brave bridesmaids writing L O V E or something a little different. Just let us know.

Keywords: Wedding day, sparklers, boots, rain, umbrella, mud, muddy, grass, photos

Do we need to provide you with food?

Food on our wedding day

Well, we wouldn’t say no! We don’t mind. The critical point here is that we know exactly, so we are prepared and get it right. It is a long day for us, and the last thing we want is for us to be foraging around for some food somewhere (anywhere!) when we should be concentrating on your photos. Imagine being on your feet for 9 hours plus with little food.

We will ask you about this on your final wedding day form

Dietary Requirements

The only thing we do not eat is lamb. Everything else, Yum Yum!

Keywords: Food, Meal, Hungry, Dietary Requirements, Free the little sheep!

Can we have the RAW (digital negatives) from our day?

We occasionally get asked to provide RAW images of the wedding photos. While we want to be super helpful and polite, Unfortunately, providing you with the RAW files is not something we can provide. These files are unedited and unprocessed negatives of the day. Raw data can easily be manipulated and have Sky Photography metadata hardcoded into them. This means Sky Photography could easily be misrepresented, and as a business, we can’t expose ourselves to those risks. It all sounds a little over the top, but it’s real-world 🙁 We don’t for one minute think our bride or grooms would do this. Still, we are conforming to the standard amongst other professionals in the industry.
What are RAW images?
RAW images are massive files of, well, raw data from the camera. Editing (RAW file interpretation) and Digital photography are what you are partly paying us to do. We often shoot photos as part of a two stages Shoot+Edit, i.e. knowing exactly how we will edit (interpret) a particular photo. Without that knowledge of the second editing part, the picture doesn’t work and can look bad.

Keywords: RAW, Digital negative, unedited, edit, photos

Can we stager your start times?

Yes, and No, well it depends. We do sometimes find it necessary to have different start times. Having Bride and Groom preparations starting at different times is quite usual. When the Groom’s coverage is starting at a different address, this is necessary. So an hour apart is quite normal and okay.

What we can’t do though:

Different Finish times

We do sometimes get asked: if we start 2 hours apart and therefore finish 2 hours apart, for example. By doing this, is essentially extending our coverage by 2 hours. Unfortunately, that’s classed as an additional 2 hours coverage: 11 hours. You can pay for extra hours no problem, so if you think you need more than the 9 hours coverage, don’t worry, we cover this in your Wedding Day Form which we’ll email you six weeks before your date.

Start time and finish time advice

From the experience of 100s of weddings, we suggest the following for optimal storytelling:

1.5/2hrs before the ceremony to 0.5/1hr after the first dance.

Keywords: Extra coverage, start times, coverage, hours, start time, finish time

Can we book you for longer hours?

You probably have us booked for 9 hours unless you specified any different.

Sometimes we must stay longer; usually, an early ceremony triggers this. If you want us to stay longer, then we charge £150 for two photographers and £100 for 1 Photographer. We will ask you about this and allow you to request this in your wedding day form

Our honest advice is this, though:

It’s not worth paying for us well into the night unless there is something, in particular, you want us to photograph. Once we have captured some dancing and guests laughing and messing about it’s all on repeat! So we suggest saving your money. One hour after the first dance is about the max.

Keywords: Hours, coverage, extra, more

Can we still book an engagement session?

Yes! This can be booked anytime, we just need to make sure we can fit it in before your day 🙂

How many group/family photos should I choose?

How Many?

We are often asked this question. Short answer: Typical 10-15 groups = approx 15-30 minutes

However ultimately it all depends on how many group photos, how big they are, the order, how quickly people come, the weather and so on. We don’t want you to suffer, so be kind to your future self and remember you will be in everyone.

We generally recommend no more than 15, but this is ultimately up to you.

When?

We always shoot group photos after the ceremony and before the wedding breakfast. Later into the evening isn’t recommended, this time is reserved for partying and guests are not in the frame of mind! We want you to be with your guests for as long as possible and so we will wait as long as we can in the drinks reception before starting the group photos. If the weather is threatening though, we may have to bring this forward.

Where?

We want to deliver lovely, well-lit, happy photos of you and your guests, with clean non-distracting backgrounds. Whilst it might be desirable to have your photos next to a fountain or in front of a beautiful flower bed or include a view etc The priority however is the people and having them well lit with a good background. We will manage this for you.

On the Form is where you will nominate helpers and create your list. It goes into detail about group photos too.

Keywords: Family Group Photos, stressless wedding!

Can we have some of our photos re edited in black and white (B&W)?

Yes definitely. Click on this page as it explains all: Changes

Keywords: re edit, Black and White, B&W, changes

Can we do a sparkler photo?

We love it; however, depending on the time of year, it might not be dark enough.
In June it can be past 10 pm before it’s close to dark enough. Usually, this is something we get requested between November and the end of March.
Also, check with your venue as they usually need to hear about it first!
You add the request to your wedding day form that we request six weeks before.

Keywords: sparkler, sparkler exit, long exposure, sparkler writing

How long do take us away for our romantic photos?

We are very conscious of taking you away of your guests. Whilst you’ll actually probably enjoy just getting away for a while. We try and keep this to an absolute maximum of 30 mins and often a lot less.

How long will the family group photos take?

Without knowing how many groups or their sizes, it’s difficult to answer. But to give you some idea each group takes between 2 and 4 minutes on average. So a list of 15 groups you can expect between 15 min to 30mins.

We will ask you all about group photos you require six weeks before your date on the all about your day, wedding form.

Keywords: Group photos, family photos, how long

How long does the engagement shoot take?

It depends on what we stumble across in terms of opportunities, weather etc but somewhere between 1hr and 1.5hrs.

You can find more information about our engagement shoots here

Where and When do we do the engagement shoot?

You can make an availability request here

When?

We can do engagement shoots at any time of the year. But for obvious reasons availability at the weekends can be a little limited. From May through till September it is light enough to do evenings too.

Where?

We usually do the engagement shoots at Delapre Abbey in Northampton as this is a great location and easy to get to from major roads.

What happens if you are ill on the day or if there is an emergency?

Regardless of the illness/emergency, we would always look to fulfil our commitment to you and your day. Firstly, I’d like to point out in over 350+ weddings we have thankfully never had to call upon the emergency cover and certainly never been in the situation where we have had to let someone down. We are active, fit and healthy people with good health insurance cover. However, we are realistic, too, and while we try our best to stay healthy, illnesses and accidents can happen. So, to counter that we do have several local wedding photographer friends, who we have an operating agreement. We are a member of a national emergency group too.  Where we are fortunate in this respect is that we are a two-person photography company, so that if one of us was suddenly unable to make the wedding, we could then at least capture the day with the other photographer.

Can we request certain images to be taken?

Yes, This is something we cover on your wedding day form. The story we will capture, it’s what we do. So you don’t need to provide a request list of key moments from the day as we are well versed in this. However, you may be wearing something sentimental like Grandma’s ring, or you want to re-enact a photo with your cousins from 20years ago, or you may want to make sure you get a specific photo at a particular time. Our wedding day form covers these along with all the family and group photos that you can request.

Do you have insurance?

Yes we have both public liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance.

Can we have B&W copies of all our photos?

When we edit your photos we will edit a number in black and white. If you would like a copy of all you photos in black and white and in colour, you can request this. We do charge an additional £100 to cover additional edit time.
